Three Plano ISD educators named best in Texas in respective teaching fields of Spanish, math & health

Texas boasts a population of 27 million people, 5 million public school children, 325,000 teachers, 9,300 schools and 1,200 districts. Even with numbers that large, remarkably three of the Lone Star State's best teachers in their respective fields were selected from among Plano ISD's cadre of 3,800. Greg Shields, (top) Plano Senior High School, captured the 2015 Texas Spanish Teacher of the Year title; Rebecca Grant, Haggard Middle School, is among 10 state finalists winning 2015 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching; and Ben Pirillo, Hughston Elementary School, is the 2015 Physical Education Teacher of the Year for the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Summer learning spans the globe for Plano ISD teachers, administrators

Several Plano ISD educators spent their summer in professional learning and leadership opportunities across the United States and abroad. From China to India, South Korea to Jamaica and points in the states like Harvard University and Kansas, educators share what they've learned and how they will turn their travels into instruction for their students. read

Spirit wear sales are underway through the Plano Principals' Association to support the group's programs for students and staff. T-shirts and fleece jackets are offered in senior high school colors. Orders are due September 15. read

Education Foundation seeks Grants to Educators applications by Sept. 25

The Plano ISD Education Foundation is seeking Grants to Educators applications through September 25. The annual grants program helps educators enhance instruction by providing funding for innovative educational programs. The 2015 online grant application is available on the Foundation website.
