Toyota recognized at school board meeting for $1,000,000 gift to the Academy Programs of Plano

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees on May 19 recognized Toyota for its generous contribution of $1,000,000 to the Academy Programs of Plano through the Plano ISD Education Foundation. New administrative appointments announced at school board meeting

The appointment of Dr. Dina Rowe (pictured, center, with family and colleagues) as principal at Beaty Early Childhood School was announced at the May 19 school board meeting. Dr. Rowe will succeed Susie Vaughan who is retiring. Ms. Vaughan opened Beaty as principal in 2002. Also announced was Cynthia Hentges, who will succeed Deborah Moilanen as principal at Wyatt Elementary, and three assistant principals. read

Three recently elected school board members take oath of office

The newest member of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees, Dr. Yoram Solomon, took the oath of office at the May 19 school board meeting. He and re-elected trustees Missy Bender and David Stolle were sworn into office this week as a result of winning their places in the May 9 school board election. Dr. Solomon is pictured with his wife and daughters. Also at their May 19 meeting, trustees elected officers for 2015-16. read

Plano ISD's Teacher of the Year Gala was held on May 14 at Plano Centre. Since the announcement of the 2015 Teachers of the Year - Lilli Wisler and Jennifer Denton - photos submitted by several schools have been added to the event photo gallery. Read about the gala on the district website. read
TRS-ActiveCare enrollment for the 2015-16 plan year will be held during the month of August. When the information is available, it will be posted on the benefits website. Look for updates via e-mail, interschool mail and U.S. mail. Employees can update their home address through the HR department.

The Plano Principals Association will host a golf tournament on Friday, June 19, at Ridgeview Ranch with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. The $85 fee will include a golf cart, lunch and prizes. Proceeds benefit programs of the PPA, including staff and student scholarships. Flyer pdf

Health services staff celebrates achievements of 2014-15 school year

On National School Nurse Day, May 6, the Plano ISD Health Services sunshine team, with donations from the community, held its annual health services celebration. The evening included an Italian meal, hand-decorated cookie gifts, door prizes donated by community supporters and a celebration of the year’s accomplishments.

As reported by Jun Melvin, chief human resources officer, who oversees the district's benefits and risk management department, a few of the many 2014-15 achievements of the health services team included:

– 2 nurses completed bachelor’s degrees in nursing.

– 1 nurse earned a Ph.D.

– 1 nurse passed the national exam for school nurse certification.

– 1 nurse will be president of the Texas School Nurse Organization for the Region 10 area.

– 77 nurses completed a two-year study of Clinical Assessment and Guidelines of best practice response.

This spotlight on health services also includes statistics about the number of treatments and diagnoses made by school nurses this year. read
