Head Start program celebrates 50 years of
making a difference in the lives of young learners

logoApproximately 75 Head Start parents, community members, district officials, Head Start alumni and former and current staff members gathered on April 23 to celebrate 50 years of Head Start nationally and in Plano ISD. "Changing Lives Since 1965" was the program theme. During the past 50 years, Plano ISD’s Head Start program has impacted more than 4,500 students and their families. Orchestra program video highlights award-winning students and staff

Plano ISD's award-winning orchestra program is the focus of a popular new district video with 2,300 views so far on Plano ISD's YouTube channel. Interviews with student musicians, orchestra directors, elementary music specialists, school principals, district administrators and trustees are featured in the video production, which documents how Plano ISD's prek-12 music program has empowered students to thrive through the art of instrumental music. Four campuses win state awards for excellent student councils

Four Plano ISD elementary schools are among 104 Texas campuses to have earned "2015 Student Council of Excellence" awards sponsored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Hedgcoxe, Hughston, Rasor and Skaggs (pictured) student councils were awarded based on community service, student leadership, citizenship and school spirit. Their teacher advisors have reported news about projects that helped their student leaders earn top distinction among their peers this year. read

Plano ISD's 18th Recruitment Open House was held on Saturday, April 25, with more than 500 highly qualified candidates meeting school and district officials. Staff from 58 Plano ISD campuses and departments eagerly waited until the candidates entered the open house doors at 9:00 a.m. read

Early voting continues through May 5 in the school board election. Six candidates have filed for three places on the board. Election day is Saturday, May 9. Superintendent's Service Award winners share passion for education

While Patricia Carbajal, Adele Ford, Delia Rosa and Hilda Salas work at different schools with unique responsibilities, they share many of the same characteristics: dedication, loyalty, dependability and a passion for education.

These are a few of the words their colleagues used to describe the 2015 Superintendent's Service Award winners, who were selected from among 36 nominees and awarded at Plano ISD's 50th Annual 'Salute to Service' Employee Banquet on April 9.
