May 7 Bond Election Passes

On May 7, Collin County voters passed a single bond proposition with nearly 80% of voters in favor of providing $481 million toward eight major project areas with no increase to the tax rate. The bond proposal was based upon recommendations of a facilities and technology task force. Bond Refunding Transaction Saves Taxpayers More Than $77.6 Million

In February, Plano ISD entered into a bond refunding transaction that saves taxpayers over $77.6 million in future payments on outstanding debt. The transaction replaced over $342 million of bonds issued in 2006-2008 with new bonds issued at a lower effective interest rate. Total future payments will drop from $485.6 million to $408 million, or a net decrease of 16%. READ

International Public Policy Forum Champs

A team of Plano Senior High School students bested a field of high school teams from around the globe on Saturday, April 2, winning the 15th Annual International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) debate competition and a $10,000 grand prize ($5,000 for the school’s debate program and $5,000 in individual scholarships). 78 National Merit Semifinalists

Plano ISD joins with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in recognizing 78 seniors who have been awarded semifinalist standing in the 61st Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These Plano ISD students are among 16,000 academically talented seniors who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million to be awarded next spring.READ
