Congratulations to the Plano West Senior High School Baseball Team for capturing the 2008 State Championship and representing the first Plano ISD baseball team to win state! READ

Graduation Ceremonies Airing on Cable TV

Videotaped replays of Plano ISD graduation ceremonies are airing daily August, on Plano/Richardson Time-Warner Cable Channel 99 and Verizon FIOS Channel 33. Times follow:

  • Plano West Senior High School - 4:00 p.m. daily
  • Plano Senior High School - 6:00 p.m. daily
  • Plano East Senior High School - 8:00 p.m. daily

Education Foundation Raises $1.17 Million

The board of directors of the Plano ISD Education Foundation validated on May 27 the nonprofit organization’s importance to the Plano ISD, as Foundation Board President Ralph Stow announced the group had surpassed its 2008 fundraising goal, raising more than $1.17 million in the 2007-2008 school year, with an increase of ten percent over last year’s record-breaking million dollar mark. Innovations in STEM Teaching Awards

Deborah Johnston and Becky HiggsPlano ISD Teachers Deborah Johnston and Becky Higgs (l-r) captured 2008 Texas Instruments Foundation Innovations in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Teaching Awards. The Schimelpfenig and Bowman middle school educators, respectively, each won $10,000 awards. Four additional Plano ISD teachers were named STEM finalists.READ

2008-2012 District Strategic Plan

"Future Focused" - 2008-2012 Strategic PlanPDF was adopted on May 20 by the Plano ISD Board of Trustees. The document is the result of seven months’ work by the board and superintendent’s cabinet as well as eight staff and community focus groups. It will serve as the foundation for the school district’s long-range planning and annual goals.

2008-09 Administrative Appointments

Eight school and district administrative appointments were announced this week by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Otto. School principals (like Mike Landingham, pictured) and administrative interns, a head coach, two coordinators in the Student & Family Services department and PISD Employee Child Care Center coordinator were announced.READ

School Board - Place 4 - Brad  Shanklin 4,456 (70.21%) / Robert Canright 1,891 (29.79%); Place 5 - Lloyd “Skip” Jenkins 3,098 (47.98%) / Michael Mariano 1,375 (21.29%) / David Hall 1,984 (30.73%); Bond Proposition - For - 6,686 (71.57%) / Against - 2,656 (28.43%)

July 1 Principals Golf Tournament Fundraiser

The Plano Principals Association will host its annual golf tournament on July 1 to raise funds for scholarships. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Stonebridge Ranch Golf Course in McKinney. Entry Form (Word doc)

Superintendent Named Among
'21 Leaders for 21st Century'

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Otto has captured the “21 Leaders for the 21st Century” Award, sponsored by the "Inside Collin County Business" newspaper. Dr. Otto was joined by members of his family at a March 26 reception at which the awards were announced and honorees were congratulated. READ

UR LogoSuperintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Otto is excited to share with the community Plano ISD's new University Readyopen in new window website. The site is designed to aid students (in grades prek-12) and parents with all aspects of post-secondary education preparedness, including career readiness, academic readiness, personal readiness, financial readiness and admissions readiness.
