Ribbon Cutting for Core Store Grand Opening
Plano ISD Education Foundation's CORE Store for Teachers Opens its Doors with Help from Donors and Volunteers

On Wednesday, September 7, the Plano ISD Education Foundation and the Plano Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the CORE (Classroom Resource for Education) Store for teachers.

The CORE Store is a new initiative of the Plano ISD Education Foundation. The store’s vision and mission are to help students succeed by equipping teachers with donated classroom resources, providing an opportunity for every Plano ISD student to have the supplies required for success in school. Ten Plano ISD Middle School Students Named Broadcom MASTERS Semifinalists

The Foundation and Society for Science & the Public announced on September 6 the selection of the top 300 students as semifinalists in its sixth annual Broadcom MASTERS competition — the nation's most prestigious Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) competition for middle school students. This year's semifinalists represent 37 states and include 27 from Texas. Of these 27 Texas semifinalist, ten are Plano ISD students. READ

Plano East Senior High IB World School Student Selected as Google Science Fair Regional Finalist

Plano East Senior High IB World School student Ritik Patnaik has been selected as a regional finalist in the Google Science Fair for his project titled Edison Head Impact System. Ritik thanks his mentors, Karen Shepherd secondary academic science coordinator and Julie Baker Plano East senior high school science teacher, for inspiring him “to pursue a relatively new kind of research and innovation." Plano ISD Council of PTAs Wants You to "Back the Future"

On September 6, the board of trustees presented the Plano ISD Council of PTAs with a written resolution for their advocacy for children. Council President Penny Chapman addressed the board with remarks that centered on the council's emphasis on membership. The council has accepted the challenge of providing a voice for every child — almost 55,000 of them — by inviting all to Back the Future by joining PTA today. See the “Join Today” button at
