Secondary Teacher of the Year Takes Personal Approach to Serving Students with Dyslexia

Jennifer Denton, Wilson Middle School Academic Specialist and Plano ISD's 2015 Secondary Teacher of the Year, says that middle school students are at a critical stage in their lives for learning strategies to succeed in school. "Many students come to school with a fear of not learning at the same rate as their peers," said Ms. Denton, a dyslexia specialist. "When students enter my classroom, the first thing that I tell them is, 'You're safe.'" This new district video video (00:5:43) features Ms. Denton in her classroom, and this top story commemorates Dyslexia Awareness Month with a spotlight on Plano ISD's program for supporting students with dyslexia. Student David Yue Captures Two National Awards for Science Research at Broadcom MASTERS Competition

David Yue, Jasper High School freshman, captured two top awards for his science research at the 5th Annual Broadcom MASTERS national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) competition held this month in California. Broadcom MASTERS draws upon increasing numbers of passionate and talented young people who are eager to partake in a program that helps them grow as scientists, engineers and innovators. David entered the contest while attending Rice Middle School. READ

School Board Recognizes Huffman Elementary for Earning 'National PTA School of Excellence' Award

Huffman Elementary School recently added to its more than three decades of achievements the title of National PTA School of Excellence. In recognition of the school's most recent honor, the Plano ISD Board of Trustees on October 6 presented Huffman PTA President Kimberly DeWeese, Principal Toni Strickland and the Huffman PTA with a certificate of recognition. Teachers Share with Trustees Experiences and Plans for Building Capacity through Technology Integration

Teacher leaders at five schools provided an instructional focus report about capacity building through technology integration at the October 6 meeting of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees. Among the presenters was Ayanna Black (pictured) from Thomas Elementary School. The teachers shared what they learned at Plano ISD's Education Technology Summer Institute (ETSI) and how they assist colleagues in engaging students and improving student achievement through the use of technology. 1965 Plano High School State Championship Football Team to Celebrate 50th Anniversary at October 16 Homecoming Game at Clark Stadium

The 1965 Plano High School Championship Football Teammates will celebrate their 50th reunion at this Friday night's homecoming football game, October 16 at Clark Stadium, 6600 Stadium Drive in Plano. The football matchup will be the Plano Senior High School homecoming game against McKinney Boyd High School.
