Welcome Back to School

Dr. BinggeliDear Plano ISD Community,

I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to you as we launch the 2015-16 school year, just as the community has warmly welcomed me as your new superintendent of schools. I have spent the summer learning about this outstanding school district and the amazing community that supports us. Our schools are great places for children to grow, learn and make their mark in academics, the arts, athletics and through abundant district programs. We established the theme, “Make Your Mark,” to inspire students and staff members to make an impression as leaders and learners in the classroom and beyond.

As an entire community we embrace this back-to-school season full of hope and expectations for the coming year. Our district, board of trustees, community and families prepare for this time of year in many ways, as we unite in our mission to provide an excellent education for each student.

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees is hard at work in its governance role and has also reached forward to our citizens to establish a facilities and technology task force. This group will measure our facilities and programs according to their standards as a community focused on education. The task force will begin meeting in September and will continue their work through the fall.

First Day of School

Dr. Binggeli greeted families, faculty and staff across the school district today, the first day of the 2015-16 school year. He is pictured at Weatherford Elementary School with the Chandler family: Molly (PTA president), Chris and children Paul and Madeline.

In my own preparation for the coming year, I reflect on my past roles in campus leadership and the steps taken to welcome students on the first day. Inevitably we try to plan for every back-to-school scenario, however it’s when the students arrive that we are at our best. This time of year gives educators the opportunity to embrace our profession with a renewed sense of ownership as teaching students is our life’s work. Entering my 35th year in this profession, I continue to believe in the incredible nobility of that mission.

Our zeal in welcoming the new year is an invitation for you to partner with us in your children’s education, as there is no greater purpose for how we channel our time and resources. We invite your participation as an active parent, volunteer or business partner as we collectively make our mark in improving children’s lives and empowering them to realize their hopes and dreams.
