Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee Members Lead at School and District Levels
Plano ISD Superintendent of Schools Richard Matkin seeks advice on an ongoing basis from many school and community groups, including students. The elite team of twelve senior high school students who comprise the Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee meet monthly with the superintendent and his cabinet to share issues of importance to students and the school district. Plano Cardboard Challenge Draws 300+ Fans
The first school district-wide "Plano Cardboard Challenge," held in conjunction with the annual Global Cardboard Challenge, was a huge success. The Saturday, October 11, event drew more than 300 family members from 17 campuses. Kids of all ages built anything they could imagine as they worked in teams using cardboard, recycled materials and lots of creativity. Read more

Plano ISD Students Excel in Science Competitions
Several students have earned recognition and awards in recent science competitions at the state and national levels. Seven students captured semifinalist standing in the prestigious Siemens Competition, the premiere science research competition for high school students. Thirteen students qualified through the Texas Junior Academy of Sciences competition to advance to the national contest to be held in San Jose, CA, next February. And, seven middle school students were named BroadcomMASTERS semifinalists. Read more
