State District Judge Issues Findings in Texas School Finance Lawsuit
State District Judge John Dietz issued a final judgment on Thursday, August 28, declaring the state's school finance system unconstitutional on several premises. All the school district plaintiff groups succeeded on their claims. "We knew this win was inevitable," said Plano ISD Superintendent of Schools Richard K. Matkin. "As Judge Dietz pointed out, the school finance system has irrefutably become a statewide property tax, evident in Plano ISD by the nearly $1.4 billion our district has returned to the state since recapture began in the 1993-94 school year. Plano ISD Uses Augmented Reality Software
to Help Demo 2014-15 Theme 'Loud and Clear'

To complement this year's theme, Plano ISD is using a mobile app called Aurasma, allowing readers to uncover digital content in printed materials. Through the auras created using this software, the district is giving new meaning to the phrase, "a picture is worth a thousand words." Download the Aurasma app and follow PlanoISDCommunications to reveal "Loud and Clear" messages throughout this school year. Follow the instructions, and view our online Aurasma photo album to see all of the auras created so far. New auras will be added throughout the school year. Read more

Harvey Fishero Takes Helm as Foundation President

The Plano ISD Education Foundation Grants to Educators program helps teachers enhance instruction in their classrooms by providing funding for innovative instructional programs. The 2014 online application is now available on the Foundation's website. Grants are due on Friday, September 26. The Foundation also announces the induction of Harvey Fishero as its board president for the new school year. Read more

Final Weekend for 'Willowbend Gives Back' Event
This is the final weekend for shoppers to designate the Plano ISD Education Foundation as their charity of choice in the third annual Shops at Willow Bend Gives Back program. Shoppers will earn money for one of the preselected charities simply by registering their receipts at the concierge center or registration table at grand court. Every dollar spent in August is a point earned for the charity. At the end of the month, the charities with the most points will received a donation of $5,000, $3,000 or $2,000 from The Shops at Willow Bend. Read more

Texas School Nutrition Standard Update
Plano ISD has received further clarification from the Texas Department of Agriculture regarding changes in the statewide standard for school nutrition. The district can confirm that elementary schools will continue to operate under the same guidelines as last year, and there will be some impact for secondary schools. Read more
