Plano East Senior High IB World School Student Named Google Science Fair Regional Finalist
September 6, 2016
Plano East Senior High IB World School student Ritik Patnaik has been selected as a Regional Finalist in the Google Science Fair for his project titled Edison Head Impact System.
Ritik thanks his mentors, Karen Shepherd secondary science coordinator and Julie Baker Plano East Senior High School science teacher, for inspiring him “to pursue a relatively new kind of research and innovation."
He feels the "Maker Culture" has allowed him to make a difference in the world. "This culture combines the worlds of research and technology-DIY and does not restrict my ideas to a research lab. I can invent within the walls of my house.”
In brief, Ritik’s project would help youth football coaching staffs recognize player head injuries. Brain injuries can cause later-life cognitive abnormality for young athletes. His project focuses on a low-cost system that can assist coaching staffs in detecting high-impact head/brain injuries.
Ritik was invited by the Intel Makerspace Team to demo his Google Science Fair Regional Finalist project at the Intel Developers Forum, in San Francisco on Aug 16-18. The Intel team produced a video of his demo. Watch video
