Plano ISD Facility Services Team Oversees Construction of New Schools & Major Renovations

2004 & 2008 Facility Bond Updates
This summer, Plano ISD bond planning and new construction staff is managing more than $500 million in bond initiatives approved by voters in 2004 and 2008 that are in various stages of construction and planning. "All projects are on schedule and within budget," reported Richard Matkin, associate superintendent for business services, at the August 4 school board meeting.
2004 Bond Program

The brand new 75,000 square-foot Sigler Elementary School replaces the original campus built in 1963. The $12 million facility has revitalized the neighborhood located near Alma Road and Plano Pkwy.

- Hendrick Middle School (renovation)
- Clark High School (major renovation)
- Boggess Elementary School (classroom addition)
- Armstrong Middle School (kitchen renovation)
- Haggard Middle School (kitchen renovation)
2008 Bond Program
Construction Phase
- Administration Building (additional parking)
- Barron Conversion (early childhood school to elementary school to serve grades K-5)
- Isaacs Early Childhood School (new, opening fall 2009)
- Otto Middle School (new, opening fall 2010)
Planning Phase
- McMillen High School (new, opening fall 2011)
- Vines High School (science/fine arts)
- Plano East Senior High School (science/dining/kitchen)
- Forman Elementary School (six classrooms)
- Guinn Special Programs Center (four classrooms)
- Transportation Center
- Mendenhall Elementary School (replacement building)
- Jackson Elementary School (renovation)
Systems & Compliance
- 43 sites with capital improvements
- 23 lighting projects
Bond Program Focus: Eliminate Portables
Mr. Matkin reported to trustees that part of the focus with bond programs is to eliminate all portable classrooms. "We put additions on where we had portables," he said. "This fall, as we align things and get ready for the new high school, we’ll be able to eliminate the need for portables."
Skip Jenkins, school board president, commented, "Every year, we seem to be on budget and on time. That’s a credit to what we’re able to accomplish in a few short months."
