Foundation President Beth Webb Plans Aggressive Development in 2009-10 to Support Schools

July 16, 2009

Beth WebbAs Plano ISD Education Foundation president-elect and development chair, Beth Webb put her heart into the “I Love Plano” community campaign and “Touch the Heart of a Child” employee campaign. With the success of these and other recent fundraising efforts, which resulted in $1 million for the Foundation, Ms. Webb became president of the non-profit organization on July 1. The Plano ISD Education Foundation works to generate private support for priority projects identified by Plano ISD for which tax dollars are not available. All contributions to the Foundation remain within the school district.

An active community and district volunteer, Beth Webb believes that, “The Plano ISD Education Foundation’s support of Plano ISD is more important than ever. The Foundation will continue its plans for aggressive growth and development in the upcoming year.”

Ms. Webb, a Plano ISD alumna, explained, “The Foundation will expand its base of large corporate and philanthropic foundation partners in specific program areas and increase support from Plano ISD alumni, parents, community, and employees. It is also important that we share the positive story of our school district and how the Foundation has helped Plano ISD achieve an excellent education for all children.”

Ms. Webb also outlined new Foundation endeavors as including the groundwork for an endowment campaign, starting an organized alumni relations program, and continuing to work with the next STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program to better equip chemistry students and teachers to meet new state requirements.

Dr. Doug Otto, superintendent of schools, remarked, “Beth Webb’s efforts and leadership have helped to raise more than $1 million for public education and for programs benefiting Plano ISD students, teachers and families. I am confident that, with her leadership, expertise and spirit of service, she will take this most vital organization to even higher levels of support for our district.”

Karla Oliver, Plano ISD executive director for government and community relations, said, “I am excited and pleased about Ms. Webb’s presidency for the coming year. She will bring creative
ideas, energy and the dedication that I know will inspire others to join this dynamic partnership between the Foundation and Plano ISD.”

Ms. Webb’s participation in the community has earned her numerous honors. Recently honored with husband Duncan as the 2009 Plano Citizens of the Year, Ms. Webb and her family were recognized several years ago as a Plano Family of the Year. Ms. Webb has chaired both the Plano ISD Teacher of the Year Gala and the Foundation’s “Ski Plano” Gala and has served on the Foundation Executive Board and as President of the Plano Junior League.

Her other civic and community involvement has included committee co-chair of the Arts of Collin County Plano Fundraising Committee, recruitment team member for Chi Omega Richardson/Plano Alumni, sustaining member of the Junior League of Plano, sustaining advisor of the Collin County Council on Family Violence, advisory board member of the SciTech Discovery Center Advisory Council, and member of the Star Children’s Charity.

Ms.Webb’s family includes husband Duncan, a local lawyer and former president of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees, and daughters Heather and Melissa, both graduates of Plano schools.

The Plano ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors comprises business and community leaders who work to maintain excellence in Plano schools.

The Plano ISD Education Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit
organization with the mission to generate private support for priority projects identified by Plano ISD not funded by tax dollars. The Foundation provides grants to educators, programs that support academic enrichment to Plano ISD students, emergency assistance for teachers and staff members in crisis, as well as programs aimed at recruiting and retaining quality teachers.
