Hundreds Attend Plano ISD Family Event

HiTECCC Event LogoSuperintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Otto is proud to share a Photo Essayopens in new window from a unique family event held on October 15 at Williams High School. "Engineering Your Future Through Math and Science" was hosted by the Sci-Tech Discovery Center, Inc., and the High Technology Education Coalition of Collin County (HiTECCC). Participants included students from Armstrong and Bowman Middle Schools and Williams High School and their families. The event followed a day-long series of classroom presentations held at the three schools. HiTECCC members are Plano ISD, Collin College, the University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, Nortel, Raytheon, Alcatel-Lucent and Cisco. Press Release PDF

National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists

Lamp of ExcellenceSuperintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Otto announced this week the names of nearly 100 Plano ISD seniors who have achieved Semifinalist standing in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically gifted students now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,200 scholarships worth $34 million. Dr. Otto is also proud to recognize hundreds of "Commended" students, "Achievement Semifinalists" and "Hispanic Recognition " honorees. Congratulations!

School Board Update

October 16 Strategic Planning Work Session - Trustees conducted their first "Five-Year Strategic Plan" focus group session on October 16 at the Sockwell Center. This initial planning meeting will be followed by focus group sessions of identified Plano ISD groups, including Superintendent Doug Otto's Faculty Council and Student Advisory Committee, an additional teacher group, school principals, support staff, PTA/parents and civic and university leaders. The planning process will conclude in January, 2008, with final review and approval by the board. November 6 Business Meeting - Trustees will meet again at 7:00 p.m. on November 6 at the district administration building.
