Frequently Asked Questions

Effective October 9, 2009, we are no longer accepting substitute applications for the 2009-2010 school year, except for substitute licensed nurse positions.

We will begin accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year on June 1, 2010.

Current active applicants must have all required documents submitted no later than Friday, October 30, 2009 to be considered for the 2009-2010 school year.

If you are a certified teacher or licensed nurse and applied between September 1, 2009 and October 8, 2009, please submit the following documents together in a sealed envelope:

  • a copy of your teaching certificate or proof of licensure
  • three (employment) reference forms
  • official transcripts with degree conferred and
  • Fingerprinting Certification Form.  (If you have been fingerprinted for a Texas School District.)

If you are a non-certified teacher or paraprofessional and applied prior to September 1, 2009, please submit the following documents together in a sealed envelope:

  • a copy of your teaching certificate or proof of licensure
  • a copy of your high school diploma (for paraprofessional substitutes)
  • three (employment) reference forms
  • official transcripts with degree conferred and
  • Fingerprinting Certification Form.  (If you have been fingerprinted for a Texas School District.)

If you have not submitted all required documents, please submit remaining documents together in a sealed envelope.  Individual reference forms must be in a sealed envelope with the reference's signature written across the flap of the envelope.

Any documents received after October 30, 2009 will be held for the 2010-2011 school year.

 


New Substitute Fingerprint Instructions
This website is only for new substitutes that have received communication from the substitute department regarding the fingerprinting process.  You will receive this fingerprinting information once we receive the required substitute documents (see below).

Thank you for your interest in applying as a substitute for Plano ISD.   Please refer to the new substitute information listed below on how to become a substitute. 

Becoming a Substitute

Effective October 9, 2009, we are no longer accepting substitute applications for the 2009-2010 school year, except for substitute licensed nurse positions

If you are applying to substitute as a teacher, you will need to complete the Teacher Insight Interview. Reserve at least 45 minutes to complete this multiple choice and free response instrument; there are no right or wrong answers. Please read the instructions carefully (answers are timed). Access the interview on-line at https://gx.gallup.com/teacherinsight.gx. If you have completed the teacher insight interview with another entity, please transfer the information to Plano ISD by going to the above website and entering our district code number. The code number to access or to transfer the interview online is 4534. If you need assistance, please contact the Human Resources department at (469)752-8135.

  1. Complete an online application  Opens new window
  2. Mail therequired documentsto the Plano ISD HR Substitute Office, 2700 W. 15th St. Plano TX  75075. (See table below). 
  3. Mail or fax three completed PISD Work Reference Forms PDF fileand a copy of your certification or proof of licensure to the HR Substitute Office.
  4. As required by Senate Bill 9, all substitutes must get fingerprinted.
    After
    you’ve submitted all required documents, you will be contacted via e-mail or mail with instructions of how and where to obtain your fingerprints.
        Substitutes are required to pay for their own fingerprinting expenses.  If you are certified through SBEC, the cost will be $52.20  (fingerprinting requirements). If you are not certified, the cost will be $50.25. Upon clearance, you will be invited to a substitute orientation. 
  5. Note: Substitute applicants who attended a university/high school located outside of the U.S. must meet current criteria for substitution and have their university degree and high school transcripts evaluated by an accredited international degree equivalency evaluator (link).
