Board Agenda - April 04, 2006

5. Library furniture for Haggard Middle School

Presenter: Richard Matkin

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Proposal for the following items was requested from one TASB Buy Board vendor. The proposal was reviewed by the appropriate department and recommended to the Purchasing Department for final review and compliance with Educational Code Section 44.031, Local Government Code, Chapter 791, and School Board Policy.

Local government code, Chapter 791, enables the District to purchase goods or services through interlocal agreements without using a bid process. Staff determined that the Texas Association of School Boards, Buy Board, has available several approved catalogs and vendors for library furniture, one being Tesco. The Learning Media Staff and Purchasing Staff determined that Tesco brand furniture is considered to be the District standard for Library Furniture, due to high quality and durability. Past usage of the Tesco Furniture indicates that Tesco offers the best long-term value.

The proposal submitted is for additional library furniture which must match the existing Tesco furniture that had been purchased from and installed by J & S Equipment at Haggard Middle School. Since they are the only Buy Board vendor who supplies Tesco furniture in Region 10, J & S Equipment submitted a quote for this additional library furniture.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends that this proposal be awarded to J & S Equipment.

Business Impact:

Estimated Value: $36,133.00.
Budget/Financial Implication: 2004 Bond Funds.
Evaluation Criteria: Quality of Goods; Long Term Cost; Vendor Reputation; Best Meets the Needs of the District.
