VII. Elementary Professional Learning/Early Release Days for 2007-08

Description:

This recommendation is a result of several meetings conducted by a committee of elementary principals and central office staff. They were charged with looking at various options that would enhance the professional development opportunities for elementary teachers. The committee looked at several options and determined that the most viable option would be to utilize early release days. This recommendation truly integrates professional development into the teacher's contracted time and it would be ongoing throughout the school year. This option has been discussed at a board work session, and information and data were provided in order to answer questions from board members. Most of the early release days would be in the fall semester with two of the days conducted in the spring semester. A communication plan with parents has also been developed and would be put in place contingent upon board approval of the recommendation.
