Twenty-two Plano ISD schools have captured the National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Award, presented by the United States Department of Education. The award is based upon the following criteria.

• strong leadership
• a clear vision and sense of mission that is shared by all connected with the school
• high quality teaching
• challenging and up-to-date curriculum, policies and practices that ensure a safe environment conducive to learning
• a solid commitment to parental involvement
• evidence that the school helps all students achieve high standards

The national award selection process involves an extensive written nomination, selection by a state blue ribbon committee and qualification for a site visit from a national blue ribbon panel of educators.
