Board Election
About the Board of Trustees
The
Board of Trustees consists of seven members elected
to serve, without compensation, for overlapping
terms of three years each. Elections
are conducted annually in May. While candidates run for
specific places, they do not represent specific geographical
areas; rather, each represents
Plano ISD at large. Following
the annual election, the board elects a president,
vice-president and secretary to serve for one-year terms.
Application
Process
- Anyone may pick up an application and Appointment of Campaign Treasurer form from the Plano ISD Communications
Office, 2700 W. 15th Street, Plano, TX 75075.
- Applications must be signed, notarized and state
the place for which the applicant is a candidate.
- The term
of office for school trustee is three years.
- All applications filed are public records and open to inspection upon request.
- Completed forms
must be filed in the Communications Office.
To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, the office of school board trustee, a person must:
- Be a United States citizen.
- Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
- Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be:
a. Totally mentally incapacitated and the person's mental capacity has not subsequently been completely restored by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction; or
b. Partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote and the person's guardianship has not been modified to include the right to vote or the person's mental capacity has not been completely restored by a subsequent final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction.
- Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities. Atty. Gen. Op. LO 96-114 (1996)
- Be a resident of the state for 12 months, and a resident of the district for six months, prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot. Tex. Const. Art. XVI, Sec. 14
A person may not be elected trustee of an independent school district unless the person is a qualified voter. Education Code 11.061 (b)
